Orange Grove, CA
Sun-Maid has provided premium quality raisins and dried fruits from farmland across California to families and establishments around the world since 1912. Their extensive operation required impermeable and floating cover solutions to improve efficiencies and reduce waste.
EFI addressed the issue of existing covers leaking – many of which had been repaired several times over the years. Because biogas is used as boiler fuel, Sun-Maid’s facility required a gas tight cover to ensure economical plant operation. In order to minimize biogas production loss, EFI was able to compress the construction schedule.
The geomembrane work was completed on schedule, with a new cover fabricated on site before the existing cover was removed. The digester is operated at a constant level and the biogas is not stored under the cover for long periods of time.
To meet the requirements of this cover replacement, 60 mil HDPE was selected. The new cover system has functioned as designed with little required maintenance since installation.
