Case Study
Ambient temperature lagoon cover digester system with methane flare, reducing GHG emissions and generating VER credits for a 400-cow dairy.
The Challenge
Creek Acres Farm's nearly 400 milking cows produced flushed waste collected in four open-air lagoons. These lagoons emitted harmful greenhouse gases, created foul odors, were vulnerable to rainwater flooding, and did not harness the manure's economic potential. The farm needed an environmentally sound manure management system.
Our Approach
EFI designed, fabricated, and installed two ambient temperature lagoon cover systems. Each system includes a floating cover with ballast weight system and biogas collection lines feeding a flare for methane destruction. Monitoring and electronic recording systems track Voluntary Emission Reduction (VER) parameters for credit verification. Funded through NRCS EQIP program.
Outcomes
“The system exceeded the EQIP specifications and eliminated our lagoon odors completely. The VER credits create a revenue stream we didn't have before.”
