All wastewater lagoons benefit from geosynthetic liner systems, municipal, industrial, and agricultural. This includes aeration basins, facultative lagoons, anaerobic lagoons, polishing ponds, sludge storage, equalization basins, and emergency overflow containment. Liners prevent groundwater contamination, meet regulatory requirements, and extend lagoon service life. EFI has installed more wastewater lagoon liner systems than any other contractor in America.

Lining an existing lagoon involves dewatering the lagoon, regrading and preparing the subgrade to a smooth, compacted surface, and then installing the geosynthetic liner system over the prepared base. EFI works with your operations team to schedule work during low-flow periods and minimize disruption. In some cases, partial dewatering or phased construction can keep portions of the system operational during installation. The liner is factory-fabricated in large panels and field-seamed on site for a continuous, leak-free containment system.

Floating covers eliminate 95%+ of odor emissions from wastewater lagoons by creating an impermeable barrier between the lagoon surface and the atmosphere. This is the most effective odor control solution for lagoon systems, especially in populated areas where odor complaints are a concern. EFI designs and installs floating cover systems specifically for odor control applications, and many of our wastewater clients have eliminated all odor-related complaints after cover installation.

Treat them as two separate problems. Odor off an anaerobic treatment lagoon is hydrogen sulfide leaving the surface, and the fix is a gas-tight cover, with headspace oxygen injection behind it to strip the H2S from the captured gas before it reaches the flare. EFI USA does both, as one scope. Improving dissolved oxygen in the liquid is aeration, which pushes the cell toward aerobic treatment for BOD and ammonia and ends biogas production. Aeration equipment vendors supply that; EFI does not design or sell aeration. Most industrial sites that need both run a covered anaerobic cell first and an aerated cell after it. EFI lines both cells and covers the first one.

EFI provides oxygen and air injection for covered lagoons and digesters, and the distinction matters. EFI's systems meter air or oxygen into the biogas headspace under the cover to convert hydrogen sulfide to elemental sulfur, which controls odor and protects flares and engines while the lagoon stays anaerobic. That is not water-column aeration and it does not raise dissolved oxygen in the liquid. If the lagoon is uncovered and the goal is a dissolved oxygen target for aerobic treatment, an aeration manufacturer is the right call, and EFI can line that cell or cover the anaerobic cell ahead of it.

Yes. Covered lagoon digesters capture methane produced by anaerobic decomposition of organic waste in wastewater lagoons. An impermeable floating cover with integrated gas collection traps the biogas and directs it to flaring or energy recovery equipment. This converts a greenhouse gas liability into a potential revenue source. EFI has installed 500+ covered lagoon digester systems and can evaluate whether your wastewater lagoon is a candidate for biogas capture.
