Case Study
Dual O2 injection system for covered lagoon digesters at one of the largest beef processing facilities in the US, enabling RNG-quality biogas production.
The Challenge
JBS Grand Island's slaughterhouse wastewater digesters produced biogas with H2S concentrations up to 6,500 ppm — far too high for the GreenGas RNG upgrader downstream. Chemical scrubbing alternatives were prohibitively expensive at this scale, and air injection would dilute the methane with nitrogen, degrading RNG yield.
Our Approach
EFI designed a dual PSA oxygen injection system with 23.2 SCFM total capacity for two covered lagoon digesters. Pure O2 injection promotes sulfur-oxidizing bacteria that convert H2S to elemental sulfur without diluting methane with nitrogen. EFI provided a white paper by Dr. Hector Cumba supporting the NDEE air permit application, plus a performance guarantee.
Outcomes
“EFI's O2 injection system and white paper documentation were critical to securing our air permit and enabling the RNG upgrade path.”
