Case Study
6,000-head dairy anaerobic digester generating 500kW continuous power with 212,800 SF of 60mil HDPE, reducing 1,000 metric tons of methane annually.
The Challenge
Sierra Cattle Company's 6,000-head dairy operation in Lindsay, California needed a manure management solution that would comply with California's dairy net metering law A2228 while generating revenue from biogas. The operation produced massive volumes of dairy manure requiring treatment, and the Central Valley Air Quality Management District was tightening emissions requirements for large dairies.
Our Approach
EFI installed a large-scale anaerobic digester system with 212,800 SF of 60mil HDPE geomembrane. The system captures biogas from dairy manure, generating 500kW of continuous electrical power sold back to the grid under California's A2228 net metering program. The digester reduces methane emissions by 1,000 metric tons per year while producing nutrient-rich digestate for crop fertilization.

Outcomes
“The digester turned our biggest liability into a profit center. We're generating power, meeting state regulations, and the dairy manure that used to cost us money is now producing revenue every month.”
