Case Study
Liner and cover system for hot sauce and food processing wastewater treatment, handling high-acidity and high-BOD effluent from one of Louisiana's legacy food manufacturers.
The Challenge
Bruce Foods Corporation, a Louisiana-based food manufacturer known for hot sauce and canned food products, needed a liner and cover system for its wastewater treatment lagoons. The effluent from hot sauce production is highly acidic and has extremely high BOD, requiring materials with superior chemical resistance and a cover system to manage odor and volatile organic compounds.
Our Approach
EFI installed a combined liner and cover system using chemically resistant geomembrane materials selected specifically for the acidic, high-BOD wastewater from food processing. The cover system captures volatile compounds and controls odor while the liner provides long-term containment against the chemically aggressive effluent. Material selection was validated through compatibility testing with actual process wastewater samples.
Outcomes
“Our wastewater is some of the most aggressive in the food industry — hot sauce production makes for tough chemistry. EFI's material selection and installation quality have held up perfectly.”
