Case Study
New landfill construction for Washington County featuring over 2.2 million SF of double 60mil HDPE textured liner with GCL and geotextile, completed ahead of schedule.
The Challenge
Washington County needed a new state-of-the-art landfill cell constructed to meet stringent Maryland environmental regulations. The project required a multi-layer containment system across a massive footprint — over 2.2 million square feet total across three phases — with double composite liner, leak detection, and drainage layers to prevent any groundwater contamination.
Our Approach
EFI installed a comprehensive landfill liner system consisting of 1,100,000 SF primary liner, 550,000 SF secondary liner, and 550,000 SF additional protective layers. The system used double 60mil HDPE textured geomembrane with GCL (geosynthetic clay liner) and 16oz geotextile cushion layers. The entire project was completed ahead of the county's aggressive construction schedule.
Outcomes
“EFI completed one of the largest landfill liner installations in the state ahead of schedule. The quality of their welding and the thoroughness of their QA program gave us complete confidence in the containment system.”
