Case Study
Pulp mill wastewater containment system for Rayonier's specialty cellulose operation, one of the world's leading producers of high-purity cellulose for pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
The Challenge
Rayonier Advanced Materials' Florida pulp mill produces specialty cellulose products requiring particularly clean manufacturing processes, which generates wastewater with a unique chemical profile including cellulose fibers, processing chemicals, and high-temperature discharge. The facility needed a containment system that could handle the chemical and thermal demands while meeting Florida DEP requirements for industrial wastewater management.
Our Approach
EFI installed a liner system engineered for Rayonier's specific wastewater characteristics, including thermal resistance for high-temperature discharge and chemical compatibility with specialty cellulose processing effluent. The system provides complete containment with engineered drainage and monitoring to meet Florida DEP groundwater protection requirements.
Outcomes
“Our wastewater profile is unique in the pulp industry — the purity requirements for specialty cellulose mean our effluent chemistry is different from standard kraft mills. EFI engineered a containment system specifically for our needs.”
