Case Study
Multi-farm covered lagoon digester cluster serving 5 dairies in Kings County, with centralized biogas collection and pipeline injection for RNG production.
The Challenge
CalBio Enterprises needed covered lagoon digesters installed across 5 dairy operations in Kings County as part of a dairy cluster biogas project. Each farm had different lagoon dimensions, soil conditions, and existing infrastructure requiring customized engineering. The aggressive CDFA DDRDP grant timeline required all 5 installations to be completed within a single construction season to meet funding milestones.
Our Approach
EFI deployed a standardized-yet-customizable CLD installation program across all 5 dairy sites. Each system uses HDPE geomembrane covers with biogas collection headers tied into CalBio's centralized pipeline network. The modular approach allowed EFI to run overlapping installation crews across sites, completing all 5 digesters in 7 months. Each site includes individual gas flow monitoring feeding CalBio's central SCADA system.
Outcomes
“Five digesters in seven months — most contractors couldn't do one in that time. EFI's crew rotation model and standardized engineering made the cluster timeline possible.”
