Case Study
O2 injection systems deployed across 16 dairy digester sites in California's San Joaquin Valley, supporting the largest dairy RNG cluster in the US.
The Challenge
CalBio's Phase 1 dairy RNG cluster required reliable H2S removal across 16 covered lagoon digesters spread across Kern County, West Visalia, and Hanford. Each site had varying biogas volumes and H2S concentrations, and the systems needed to produce RNG-quality gas for pipeline injection without introducing nitrogen that would reduce methane content.
Our Approach
EFI deployed O2 injection systems at all 16 sites using On Site Gas Systems PSA oxygen generators (O-25T and O-50T models). Systems were sized at 4.16-8.33 SCFM per site based on individual biogas production. Several sites were later upgraded from 4.16 to 8.33 SCFM as production increased. The PSA technology delivers 95% pure oxygen, avoiding the nitrogen dilution problem of air injection.
Outcomes
“EFI's O2 systems have been running reliably across our entire dairy cluster. The pure oxygen approach was the right call for RNG — no nitrogen contamination issues.”
