Case Study
A dairy farm biodigester installation that not only generates 120 KW of continuous power but unexpectedly solved chronic animal health problems by eliminating standing wastewater that caused cattle hoof fungus.
The Challenge
Grupo Lechero Leon's El Capricho dairy operation in Guanajuato faced environmental compliance issues from untreated wastewater, persistent odor problems, and an unexpected animal health crisis -- cattle were developing hoof fungus from standing in contaminated wastewater runoff, impacting herd productivity.
Our Approach
EFM installed 1,600 m2 of 60 mil HDPE lagoon lining and a floating cover system engineered by Strickland Engineering. The captured biogas feeds two engines generating 120 KW of continuous power, operating 365 days per year.

Outcomes
“We expected the biodigester to solve our environmental issues. What we didn't expect was that it would also cure the hoof fungus problem that had been plaguing our cattle.”
