Case Study
EFI's Mexican subsidiary EFM designed and installed a complete biodigester system for a 15,000-pig swine farm, capturing methane to generate 240 KW of continuous power and making the operation entirely energy self-sufficient.
The Challenge
Granja La Joya, a full-cycle swine operation with 15,000 pigs in Puebla, Mexico, faced mounting environmental issues including odor complaints, groundwater contamination from wastewater runoff, and methane emissions venting directly to atmosphere. Rising electricity costs further strained farm economics.
Our Approach
EFM installed 6,400 m2 of 60 mil HDPE lagoon lining and floating covers engineered by Strickland Engineering. The system captures biogas producing 2,400 m3/day, which feeds two co-generation engines delivering 240 KW of continuous electrical power back to the farm.

Outcomes
“The biodigester system eliminated our electricity costs entirely while solving the odor and contamination issues we had been struggling with for years.”
