Case Study
HDPE lagoon liner system for an overflow pond as part of a wastewater treatment plant upgrade at the Massanutten resort community.
The Challenge
As part of a wastewater treatment plant upgrade, the Massanutten Public Service Company determined the need for an Overflow Pond for additional peak flow storage capacity. The soil conditions on site limited the depth of the Pond, and deeper areas had to be excavated where aerators would be placed. The slope-sided earthen basin required a reliable geomembrane lining system with geotextile protection.
Our Approach
EFI was chosen for the geomembrane work on this project, installing a 60 mil smooth HDPE liner with an 8 oz. nonwoven geotextile layer across 149,000 SF of liner and 130,000 SF of geotextile. Due to the varying depths at each aerator area, the liner had to be custom fitted in each area with a concrete pad placed on it. The geomembrane work was started in the fall and completed on schedule.
Outcomes
“The liner system EFI installed for our overflow pond has performed flawlessly. The custom fitting around the aerator areas was a challenge, but they handled it with precision.”
