Case Study
HDPE geomembrane liner with geotextile for a pretreatment basin expansion at Pine Mountain's wastewater treatment facility.
The Challenge
The existing wastewater treatment facility needed expansion to handle the town's increased volume of wastewater. The design required construction of a pretreatment basin to provide additional treatment and storage capacity. The installation of a geomembrane liner was necessary to prevent soil and ground water contamination by the wastewater.
Our Approach
EFI was selected to supply and install an 8 oz. nonwoven geotextile layer over the native soil subgrade and a 40 mil HDPE geomembrane liner over the geotextile. The 118,000 SF installation commenced in late July 2001 and was completed in less than one week. The basin was placed in operation and has performed as specified.
Outcomes
“EFI had the entire liner system installed in under a week. That kind of turnaround on a 118,000 square foot basin is remarkable — we were back online faster than we expected.”
