Comprehensive H2S characterization study followed by O2 injection system installation at a pet food processing wastewater facility, demonstrating 78-83% H2S reduction.
The Challenge
The SC Pet facility's two covered anaerobic digesters produced biogas with extremely high H2S concentrations — measured at 14,000 ppm in field testing. This level was causing severe corrosion of gas handling equipment and made the biogas unsuitable for energy recovery without extensive pretreatment.
Our Approach
EFI partnered with Blue Green Services to conduct a multi-phase H2S characterization study: benchtop testing, in-field measurement, and wet chemistry analysis. The study confirmed 78-83% H2S reduction was achievable with O2 injection. Based on the results, EFI installed a full O2 injection system in September 2023.
