Case Study
Dairy digester with biogas upgrading infrastructure for RNG production at a 6,000-head dairy in Erath County, Texas — the state's top dairy-producing region.
The Challenge
Sysadvance partnered with a 6,000-head dairy operation in Stephenville to develop an RNG project in Texas's leading dairy county. The project required a covered lagoon digester sized for the operation's manure volume, with biogas quality sufficient for upgrading to pipeline-specification RNG. Texas's hot summers and clay soils presented engineering challenges for both the digester and the gas conditioning systems.
Our Approach
EFI installed a covered lagoon digester with 80mil HDPE geomembrane engineered for Texas clay soil conditions and thermal expansion from extreme summer heat. The biogas collection system was designed to deliver consistent gas quality to Sysadvance's upgrading equipment, with H2S removal and moisture conditioning upstream of the PSA upgrading unit. The cover anchor system was engineered for the site's expansive clay soils.
Outcomes
“Gas quality is everything in RNG — if the digester doesn't deliver consistent biogas, the upgrading equipment can't function. EFI's system delivers the gas specs we need every day.”
