Case Study
Third EFI project for Teys Australia, installing a Covered Anaerobic Lagoon and BNR basin treating 550ML of effluent per year with biogas captured for boiler hot water.
The Challenge
Teys Australia's Beenleigh meat processing facility needed to upgrade its wastewater treatment system to handle 550 megalitres of effluent per year. As their third project with EFI, Teys required a system that would integrate a Covered Anaerobic Lagoon with a Biological Nutrient Removal basin to meet Queensland's tightening discharge standards while capturing biogas to offset boiler fuel costs.
Our Approach
EFI installed a Covered Anaerobic Lagoon using 1.5mm HDPE and a BNR basin with 2.5mm HDPE lining. The CAL captures biogas from meat processing wastewater, which is routed to the facility's boilers for hot water generation, reducing natural gas consumption. The BNR basin provides secondary treatment to meet stringent nutrient discharge limits for nitrogen and phosphorus.
Outcomes
“There's a reason we keep coming back to EFI. Three projects now and every one delivered on spec, on time. The biogas offset on our boiler costs alone made this project a no-brainer.”
