Case Study
Industrial pulp mill wastewater containment liner system designed for the chemical complexity and high volumes of pulp and paper manufacturing effluent.
The Challenge
Tomahawk Power & Pulp's mill in Wisconsin generated large volumes of wastewater containing lignin, chlorinated compounds, and other pulp processing chemicals that required robust containment. The existing earthen lagoons were showing signs of seepage, and Wisconsin DNR required an engineered liner system with documented performance specifications.
Our Approach
EFI installed a comprehensive liner system using chemical-resistant HDPE geomembrane selected for compatibility with pulp mill effluent chemistry. The installation covered the existing lagoon footprint with engineered anchor trenches, sumps, and a leak detection system. All welds were verified through non-destructive testing with full documentation for Wisconsin DNR compliance.
Outcomes
“The seepage issue had been a ticking clock with the DNR. EFI got the liner in on schedule and the monitoring data since installation has been clean across every parameter.”
