Case Study
Permeable floating cover system to control algae growth at the Laurelville wastewater treatment plant basin.
The Challenge
The existing basin at the wastewater treatment plant in Laurelville, Ohio had recurrent growth of algae and other aquatic growth, causing operational issues and requiring frequent maintenance. The facility needed an effective cover solution for their 58 ft x 75 ft basin to prevent regrowth.
Our Approach
EFI removed the existing cover and replaced it with a new 50 mm OCS permeable cover system, furnished and installed on the 58 ft x 75 ft basin. The permeable design allows water passage while blocking sunlight that promotes algae growth. The geomembrane work was started in the fall and completed on schedule.
Outcomes
“The permeable cover completely solved our algae problem. We went from constant maintenance to virtually none — it was worth every penny.”
