Case Study
Poultry processing wastewater lagoon liner and floating cover system for Tyson's southeastern Oklahoma facility, combining containment with odor control.
The Challenge
Tyson's Broken Bow poultry processing plant was facing dual pressure: Oklahoma DEQ identified groundwater contamination risk from the unlined wastewater lagoon, and the growing town of Broken Bow had annexed residential development within a half-mile of the facility, amplifying odor complaints. The facility needed both containment and odor management in a single solution.
Our Approach
EFI installed a 60mil HDPE liner system with a floating cover on the primary treatment lagoon. The dual-purpose system provides groundwater protection through the HDPE containment layer while the floating cover traps odorous gases and reduces volatile emissions. The cover design includes rainwater drainage ports and access hatches for lagoon maintenance.
Outcomes
“We needed liner and odor control, and EFI showed us how to do both in one project. The combined approach saved us hundreds of thousands versus tackling them separately.”
